CONGRATULATIONS BARBARA HEINRICH!

Every year, the MJSA Vision Awards celebrate outstanding talent in the field of jewelry design. The winning designers represent the future of the jewelry manufacturing industry, and the Vision Awards competition showcases their creativity.

2011 MJSA VISION AWARD WINNER – 1st PLACE IN GOLD DISTINCTION BARBARA HEINRICH – “BLOSSOM BROOCH"

“This piece is completely hand fabricated from 18kt yellow gold. Each blossom element is hand hammered and there are approximately 120 individual elements combined in this design. It is created from round gold wire of different thicknesses that is hand hammered between paper. This hammering creates workhardening. The individual pieces were all laser welded together in order to maintain the workhardening and to create maximum structural stability.

The challenge of this piece was to create a very large scale brooch piece that has a lot of dimension yet remains very lightweight. Weighing only 19.8 grams, this piece exceeded our goals in that it came out even lighter than we had estimated. It is very strong and stable which is only possible through laser welding technology.” The piece can be worn as a hairpiece clip, a brooch as well as a pendant. There are 14 diamonds with a total carat weight of 0.21 ct.
